MTB ride to the Tule tree + Santo Domingo Tomaltepec

What to expect?

We will begin our tour pedaling from our store to the first half of a cyclist path that connects Oaxaca city with Santa Maria del Tule village, to then, detour into a very fun basic/intermediate level MTB single track trough the countryside for about 40min, that will lead us to the main square of  Santa Maria del Tule Village, where the Tule tree (One of the oldest trees in the world) is located. Once we get there, we will explore the town and get to know the tule tree, its history and importance (25min). Then we will continue our ride to the village of Santo Domingo Tomaltepec, where, if we are fortunate, we will get to know it’s beautiful church (20min)

After that, we will ride along another MTB trail that, long time ago, was part of a network of natural paths that connected the villages from the Mountain such as “Las Neverias”, with Oaxaca city. This trail is surrounded by mountains and nature with incredible landscapes of Oaxaca’s Central Valleys with views to the city and its surroundings.

After 1 hour of a combination of fun descends, flats sections and 3 good climbs with a total positive elevation of 350mts in 25miles, the final destination will be at the final of this path, where the “Tree of the Monkey” (A local famous tree because of its monkey forms in the trunk) is located, and, that actually, is already the base of Oaxaca’s Sierra-Norte. Once we reach this point we will rest for 15min where we will be able to contemplate bird sounds, some donkeys and other animals and plants from the region.

After this break we will begin our return to Oaxaca city not before stopping at an incredible water reservoir with a little forest that will give you the feeling of being in an Oasis, there, we will be provided with snacks to recover some energy and have that deserved rest. (20min)

Finally, with energy  recovered and already rested, we will return by the same trail with a constant descend almost all the way until we reach Santa Maria del Tule (1hr). There, we will ride through a dedicated cyclist path that will lead us to the city to then, reach our store where the tour ends. You arrive with an incredible feeling of overcoming, the necessary dosis of nature and adrenaline for the day and of course and incredible stay to tell your friends.
