What to expect?
We will meet at Bike Flow at 7am to adjust the bikes and present the team that will accompany us throughout the journey.
Once we have our bicycles prepared, our team will proceed to load them into our truck and we will begin traveling towards Sierra Norte which is the largest corridor of forests and jungles in Mexico and one of the most important in the world, passing through beautiful landscapes and immense mountains. until you reach the town of Cuajimoloyas located at 3,200 meters above sea level and one of the 8 towns belonging to the so-called “Pueblos mancomunados” which are a network of mountain towns (which is why they are known as “People of the Clouds”) , and that are interconnected in order to generate social and economic well-being for its habitants and work together for the preservation of this imposing and amazing place that is Sierra Norte. It is there, in Cuajimoloyas, where we will enjoy a delicious homemade local breakfast with hot chocolate or coffee and views of the mountains, excellent to start the day and get rid of the cold a little.
Once we have finished breakfast, the adventure begins. We will take our bikes and start riding for 30 minutes from the center of Cuajimoloyas until we reach Benito Juarez, which is also part of the “Pueblos manconumados”; Through dirt roads and passing through amazing paths with giant trees, thick vegetation, giant agaves and spectacular views of the central Valleys of Oaxaca, all this on a road where 80% is a descent except for 2 intermediate level climbs. which can be skipped at any time and continue the tour from the comfort of our van. Once arriving in this town, we will proceed to visit and cross the highest suspension bridge in Oaxaca, where, if the sky is clear, we will obtain incredible views of the mountains, the central valleys and even the center of the city of Oaxaca. It is here where we will also go up to a viewpoint to tell some relevant cultural, social and ecological data and where we can enjoy a delicious snack and free time. For those who love adrenaline, in this place you will also have the opportunity to jump off a zip line that crosses the mountains and the suspension bridge. (Cost separately).
After a pleasant time at the top of the mountains, we will begin our descent. Those who are looking for a little more adrenaline, in the first part we can choose to go down by bicycle from the top of Benito Juarez on paths of medium difficulty and which require an intermediate level in MTB mountain bike control, until we reach our place. main, where we will meet again with the rest of the team who have chosen to go down in our truck. Once we arrive at the main square, we will begin our scenic descent for 2 hours from Sierra Norte through a wide dirt road that is not bumpy and in which you do not need great bicycle control, always feeling the adrenaline, the pure air. and fresh from the mountains and admiring one of the best landscapes of Oaxaca, its immense mountains and its enormous diversity of animals and plants along the entire route, until reaching the town of Teotitlán del Valle (Originally called Teocaltitlán, “land of gods” in Nahuatl), which is known for the quality and beauty of its textile products created from natural dyes and wool. There a family will be waiting for us with a tradition that dates back just over 100 years of knowledge, with demonstrations at an international level, which is responsible for the rescue of this wonderful process of extraction of natural dyes and will open its doors to us for a private demonstration. and interactive to observe and learn how colors are obtained through plants and animals of the region as well as the production of threads used for rugs and other textiles.
Once we have finished this pleasant experience, our team will load the bicycles into the van, and we will begin our last stop of the day at a Mezcal Distillery where we will eat local and regional dishes to fill our stomachs. Once we have finished eating, we will proceed to take our tour where we will tour agave plantations and learn about the processes for making Mezcal, the different types of agaves and mezcal that exist, and which will end with a tasting of more than 14 different varieties of mezcal. Finishing this, we will begin our return to the city of Oaxaca with great satisfaction after an excellent day on a bicycle with a lot of adrenaline, adventure, culture and Mezcal!
